The business intelligence behind the TRAVERSE Dashboard

Let’s take an inside look at the architecture of this the Dashboard application coming soon in version 11.

The TRAVERSE version 10.x dashboard was driven by metadata (a set of data stored in the SQL tables). The version 11 dashboard is composed of independent components that encapsulate all the implementation logic required, resulting in a more robust feature set for each dashboard component. The new components can make use of parameters, interactivity, and drill-through, depending on the nature of the component.

For example, in version 10, the Top 10 Customers dashboard used three different objects, one for period to date, one for year to date, and one for all time. In version 11, a single Top Customers component will accept parameters that define how many customers (5, 10, 20, etc.), the period of time (period to date, year to date, or all time) and whether to report on gross sales or profit. You can view the information as a list or a chart, and drill through to the sales history for an individual customer. Each user that has access to this component can configure it to their needs.

The default dashboard view will be a user-configured display on the normal TRAVERSE shell. When you open TRAVERSE, you can optionally display the dashboard as the default view alongside the menu. To support users—such as management or executives—that may not need to have TRAVERSE installed, we will provide browser and mobile access to the dashboard. We will support most browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, and Safari), and we will build mobile clients for the Apple iOS, Android, and Windows Phone environments. Note that these user interface components will be separate and require distinct development to support custom dashboards that you may develop.
